Fishing Bite Alarms

This article is to give the reader an insight into the different types of fishing bite alarms available, it makes no reference to which is best as each bite alarm type will have it's good and bad points.

It's main object is to give information to children set projects by their schools on the design and manufacture of fishing bite alarms.

The five main designs used for detecting bites are:

  1. A fishing line resting against a lever operating a switch.
  2. The fishing line placed on a rotating wheel operating an electronic switch.
  3. As option 2 but placed on a rotating cam which moves a lever to operate an electronic switch.
  4. The fishing line placed on Piezo sensor detecting vibrations.
  5. A lead with a level detecting switch, which is clipped onto the fishing line.
