LEVER SWITCH.

This was one of the first methods used for detecting bites and is still in use today.

This is a very simple device consisting of an adjustable lever, switch, sounder unit and a battery.

With the fishing line resting on the lever, the lever is adjusted so that the switch is just at the point of switching on.

When the fish bites extra pressure is applied to the lever pushing the switch to the on position which makes the sounder function, thus indicating a bite.

GOOD POINTS

1 Very cheap to purchase and make.

2 Low battery consumption.

3 Will function in most weather conditions.

BAD POINTS

  1. Difficult to set up to stop false bites and detect all proper bites.
  2. Will not detect a running bite which is required when fishing for some species of fish.
  3. Can give problems in wet freezing conditions with switch and lever freezing together preventing movement.
